Chargeable Weight Calculator
Calculate chargeable weight for air freight and bulky shipments. Freight forwarders compare actual weight and volumetric weight, then charge by the higher number.
Air Freight Formula
Volumetric weight in kilograms = Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) x Quantity / 6000
Chargeable weight = the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight
Example
A shipment has 100 cartons. Each carton is 60 cm x 40 cm x 35 cm.
Volumetric weight = 60 x 40 x 35 x 100 / 6000 = 1400 kg
If actual weight is 1100 kg, the chargeable weight is 1400 kg.
Ocean Freight Note
For LCL sea freight, forwarders often compare weight and CBM using a rule such as 1 CBM = 1000 kg, but exact rules vary by route and forwarder.
